Miscellaneous from Madison

The Beginning of a Rant

October 5, 2004 · Leave a Comment

This is my initial post in my first exercise in a blog, or weblog. I originally thought that blogs were stupid and avoided conversation in very Bowling Alone sense (see Robert Putnam’s book or earlier article of the same title). Since I’ve experience a lot of different things on the internet, this was one of the few remaining things that I had yet to experience, despite their popularity. And so, I’m doing this as part of my practicum for my Critical Internet Studies Communication arts Class. Which you can find the syllabus and related course content here.

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Nick, I’m a junior at the University of Wisconsin, in Madison, Wisconsin, pursuing a degree in political science and communication arts. I’m also a speech and debate coach at James Madison Memorial High School on the far west side of town. You can check out some more detailed information in my profile.

This blog is named after my favorite Led Zepplin song, and also refers to my ability to constantly talk, sometimes about nothing at all… Both of which I felt were appropriate for a blog. This blog will be about me and my life, which involves school, coaching, my internship, and my friends. I’m also engaging in this because, as much as I’d like to host and create a website again, I really don’t have the amount of time or effort to do so, and this seems to be an easy remedy. The address of this website is named in part after me, because I couldn’t get ahold of bubb.blogspot.com and also after progressive leader, long time Wisconsin Governor, and one of the greatest Senator’s of this nation’s history, Robert M. LaFollete, who’s nickname was Fighting Bob. If you don’t know anything about Fighting Bob LaFollete, please go here to find out more.
